David this is such a great article. In my case it is true, it took years to understand what feedback brought to the table and how to conduct rounds effectively. Both giving feedback and receiving is such an important part of the design process and it should not be ignored. I think an important thing to point out as well is that we as designers are often emotionally attached to our design decisions. Therefore it becomes really hard–even threatening to realize that not everybody agrees with the choices we made. Once we understand that as you mentioned, feedback is data and we shouldn’t assume we’re right from the get go, then the results are much superior.
