What a great piece Mark! A lot of this really resonates with me and I am just as curious to see how streaming companies reshape the way we interact with content. I would also add that Discovery is a huge issue, and while companies like Spotify and Pandora have done a lot to remedy that, there is still a lot of gaps that need to be filled.
In terms of interacting socially over music, I think Turntable.fm was an idea ahead of its time, and I would be curious to see some of these, more established players, play with a similar concept in our current “Snapchat generation”.
I have been working on UX on the streaming video side and companies generally see Netflix as a north star. Very little goes into innovation and a lot goes into imitation. The limitations that you mention above regarding stakeholders and rights management are very true in video as well. Only the brave will maintain relevance…
